Medical Spa Vacations Worldwide

A growing number of patients are traveling to Asia for hip replacement, knee surgery and other surgical procedures at a fraction of U.S. costs. And countries such as India and Thailand are spending big bucks to attract even more paying patients from abroad with not only affordable procedures, but excellent doctors and spa-like facilities

Nurses and surgeons appear immune from the threat, but Ohio University economist Alfred Eckes speculates that as health-care costs rise, airline prices fall and Asian medical training increases, Americans might someday be shipped to Asia for certain surgical procedures, dampening U.S. surgeons' wages.
